My name is Phillip Hill. I was born in Gibraltar, a place of which I have no recollection, and I grew up in Britain, Singapore and Italy. I am half-English and half-Italian but would like to have at least a dozen other halves. I now live in Rome, where I make a living as a simultaneous interpreter.
The background photograph on this website is a station in the jungle about half-way between Colombo and Kandy in Sri Lanka. My poem The Observation Car is a description of the rail journey between these two cities.
The photo above the index (“What’s inside”) on the home page is the window display of a pickle shop in Istanbul.
